Liz Claiborne is a fashion company started in 1976 in New York by Belgian-born designer Liz Claiborne, her husband Art Ortenberg, and business partners Leonard Boxer and Jerome Chazen. Emerging just as women were entering the workforce in large numbers, the company made a name for itself by offering mix-and-match women's separates grouped into a single collection within the store—a radical concept when it was introduced. The clothing and concept were an immediate success. The company added accessories to its line in 1980, and a men's line named simply "Claiborne" soon followed. Liz Claiborne became the first company founded by a woman to enter the Fortune 500.
The earliest edition was created in 1986 and the newest is from 2017. Liz Claiborne fragrances were made in collaboration with perfumers Calice Becker, Pascal Gaurin, Olivier Polge, Jean Claude Delville, Laurent Le Guernec, Loc Dong, Jean-Marc Chaillan, Pierre Negrin, Carlos Vinals, Nicholas Calderone, Carlos Benaim and Harry Fremont.
